The Residences at 6G - Austin, Texas

The Assignment

Interior photography of the residences and common areas at The Residences at 6G, 600 Guadalupe, in downtown Austin. At the time of the shoot it was the tallest building in the city, and the view is a significant part of what the upper-floor residences sell.

The Problem

The weather did not cooperate. Flat overcast sat over downtown for the scheduled shoot, and from sixty-odd floors up that means the windows go white. The interiors themselves photographed well, but every frame that should have shown Austin laid out below showed a blank grey rectangle instead.

On a building where elevation is the product, that is not a cosmetic problem. A residence at that height photographed against featureless sky looks no different from one on the tenth floor.

The Approach

Rather than reschedule the whole shoot or accept unusable frames, we photographed the interiors as planned and returned for view plates when the air cleared, shooting the genuine outlook from each specific window at the correct height and angle.

Those plates were then composited into the interior frames, matched to the light and time of day in the original exposure. The distinction that matters: every view in the finished set is a real photograph made from the window it appears in. Nothing was generated, and no stock skyline was substituted.

That is a deliberate constraint, not a stylistic one. Residential marketing imagery is subject to truth-in-advertising expectations, and a composited view that shows something a resident would not actually see from that unit creates real exposure for the developer. Shooting the plates from the actual windows keeps the images accurate and the marketing defensible.

The Result

A complete interior set in which the upper-floor residences read at the height they occupy, with views that hold up to scrutiny because they are genuine. The shoot stayed on its original schedule despite the weather, and the developer went to market without a compromise in either image quality or accuracy.
